The homeopathic consultation

An initial consultation lasts around 90 minutes. A prescription from a homeopath takes into consideration your whole situation – so patients who have the same diagnosed illness (hay fever or anxiety for example) are likely to need different homeopathic medicines.

Homeopathy recognises that good health comes from treating the mind and the body together – equal importance is given to emotional, psychological and physical symptoms – and I will ask questions on all areas of your life in order to match a picture of you to the homeopathic remedy most likely to help.

After the consultation, I will spend time on case analysis, and plan a care package which may include general health advice or suggestions. Careful consideration will be given to which homeopathic remedy, potency and dosage is best suited to you. The homeopathic remedy may be one I have in stock, or it may need to be ordered from one of the homeopathic pharmacies. When your remedy is ready, it will be posted to you complete with instructions on how to take it.

After taking the remedy you may notice changes in your symptoms very quickly or it may take a little time. This depends on your level of vitality, how long you have been ill, what medication you have been taking and a host of other factors.

Realistic expectations and prognosis will be discussed at your consultation. Most chronic conditions require the minimum of three consultations for measurable results to be observed.

I will ask you to arrange a second consultation for a review of your symptoms around 4 – 6 weeks after your first remedy. This consultation will be 30-45 minutes duration.

What about seeing my doctor?

I prefer to work in an integrated way with other health care practitioners, and I always recommend that you maintain your relationship with your GP or specialist.

Homeopathic and conventional approaches can be successfully used alongside one another rather than in exclusion. Homeopathic remedies, which are non-toxic, will not interfere with the action of prescribed drugs. Nevertheless, it’s is also important to keep me informed of any changes in prescribed medication from your doctor, and to keep your doctor informed of any changes in symptoms for which you have been prescribed medicines.

Some people choose homeopathy because they are unhappy with side effects from their current prescribed medication. However, you should not stop medication until you have discussed it with your prescribing doctor.
